Late-night headsets need a mic teammates can understand and cups that do not cook your ears at 1 a.m. RGB is optional. Comfort is not.

Closed vs open

Closed cups leak less to a sleeping roommate. Open backs sound better and annoy the hallway. USB wireless is convenient; a 3.5 mm backup is how you still play when the dongle dies.

USB vs jack

USB can have better processing and worse latency. Jack works on a Switch and a PC. If you wear glasses, try clamp force in a store — reviews cannot feel your temples.

When a boom mic is better

If you stream or you are the shot-caller, a cheap boom on a desk mic will beat most headset mics. Keep the headset for the game audio.
