Passkeys are easier until the only device that holds them is at the bottom of a lake. Turn them on after you have a second device and a printed backup path.

Device vs cloud keys

Apple and Google can sync passkeys if you let them. A hardware key (YubiKey) is the extra belt. Do not delete the password on a site until you have signed in with the passkey on two devices.

A second admin

For a shared blog or ads account, a second trusted person with their own passkey beats a single phone. Store recovery codes in the password manager, not in a screenshot album named “codes.”

What to print once

Recovery codes, the manager emergency kit, and the hardware key’s spare. Tape is not a strategy. Test restore on a cheap spare phone before you travel.
