Framework 13 is the laptop I recommend when someone says they are tired of glued-in batteries. After six months the thesis holds: you can swap a port, a board, and a battery. You also live with community-driven quirks and a company that is not Apple’s retail army.
What still holds
The expansion cards are the party trick that remains useful: HDMI on the right for a travel monitor, USB-C on the left for the charger you already own. Mainboard upgrades are real if you budget for them. Linux is a first-class citizen if you pick a supported distro.
Heat and keyboard
It is a thin 13-inch machine. Under a long compile it will get warm. The keyboard is good, not magical. Speakers are fine for calls, not for movies.
Who should skip Framework
Skip it if you want a store in every mall and a same-day swap. Skip it if you never open a screwdriver — the repairability does not help you. Buy it if you keep laptops five years and you hate e-waste.
