A private setup you will still use in six months beats a hardened profile you abandoned in a week. You need tracking protection, a password manager, and a backup of bookmarks — not twelve extensions that fight each other.
A stack that survives
Firefox with HTTPS-Only and strict tracking protection, or Brave with shields on the default profile. Safari is fine on Apple if iCloud Keychain is already your manager. Chrome can be locked down; it will not be the privacy-first choice.
Three settings that matter
Disable third-party cookies. Turn on HTTPS-Only. Stop saving passwords in the browser if you use Bitwarden or 1Password — one store, not two. uBlock Origin on Firefox still earns its slot; skip five extra “privacy” add-ons.
Who should skip a new browser
Skip a yearly browser hop if your job requires Chrome enterprise policies. Change the settings in the browser you must use. A new browser will not fix reused passwords.
